Eire, who’re at the moment eleventh within the males’s ODI rankings, wanted to whitewash Afghanistan 5-0 and for West Indies to lose their two ODIs towards India earlier than the cutoff date on September 30 to leapfrog Zimbabwe, West Indies and Bangladesh within the rankings and safe direct entry into the World Cup.
Eire will now participate within the 10-team Qualifier, the winner of which can get direct entry into the principle group of the World Cup. The groups ending second, third and fourth within the Qualifier will contest the primary spherical of the World Cup, referred to as the Tremendous Collection, with the highest group qualifying for the principle, 12-team stage.
The ten-team Qualifier consists of the 2 bottom-ranked Full Members within the ODI rankings (apart from hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe) as of September 30, 2026; the highest 4 groups from CWC League 2; and the highest 4 groups from a World Cup Qualifier Playoff. This Playoff will likely be contested by the underside 4 groups from CWC League 2 together with 4 groups from the Problem League (basically cricket’s third division). The format is but to be determined however the high 4 from this eight-team Playoff will advance to the World Cup Qualifier.
The Problem League will function 12 groups divided into two swimming pools of six and every will play three round-robin tournaments over the cycle. The highest two groups from every pool will transfer on to the World Cup Qualifier Playoff.
Eire had did not qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup, getting knocked out within the Tremendous Six stage of the Qualifier for that version.
