The Houston Astros kicked off 2026 with a bang by including Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai to their pitching workers.
Imai, 27, was one among a handful of proficient gamers from the NPB to be out there on the free agent market this winter,
Houston signed Imai to a three-year contract, which might max out at $63 million, based on The Athletic’s Chandler Rome. Rome notes that Imai has the second-highest common annual worth amongst Japanese-born gamers, together with his compatriot and World Collection Champion Yoshinobu Yamamoto (12-year, $325 million) being the best.
Imai is coming off one among his greatest seasons within the NPB, going 10-5 with a 1.92 ERA in 24 video games and hanging out 178 batters in 163.2 innings. The one concern with Imai, which led some groups to hesitate to signal him, was his walks: a profession BB/9 of 4.4.
