Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli celebrated his Belgian Grand Prix victory with a public birthday message for his father, Marco.
Antonelli, who began from pole place, secured his sixth win of the season at Spa-Francorchamps after heading off Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Following his post-race interview, the 19-year-old signed the bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne with the message, „Pleased Birthday, Dad“.
Followers had been fast to choose up on the second on social media, with some joking that the Method 1 driver was „setting unrealistic requirements for normal sons“.
„Without end a fan of Kimi. What a healthful second,“ one fan commented on Reddit, whereas one other added: „Awww what an incredible present for his dad. Dedicating the win to him.“
„I’m not crying. You’re crying,“ another person posted.
Additional feedback included: „One other healthful second from Kimi, I’ll be pleased for him if [when] he turns into WDC.“
Antonelli’s win on the Belgian Grand Prix has prolonged his lead within the drivers‘ championship. Heading into the weekend, he was 25 factors away from his team-mate George Russell in second. Now, after Russell retired from the race resulting from a collision with Lewis Hamilton, Antonelli sits 45 factors forward of Hamilton in second. Russell dropped to 3rd, 5 factors behind the seven-time champion.
