Sergio Perez has revealed that his return to Formulation 1 with Cadillac was fuelled by a want to show he stays „among the best“ within the championship, following a mentally taxing finish to his Pink Bull tenure.
After taking a much-needed 12 months out to recharge from what he described as a „poisonous“ last six months on the Milton Keynes outfit, the Mexican driver returned to the grid with the all-new American outfit for the 2026 season.
Talking on the Excessive Efficiency podcast, Perez defined: „When the mission with Cadillac got here, I believed, ‚It is a large mission; this can be a large model.‘ And once I met Dan [Towriss], I knew this man may be very aggressive, and he’ll do no matter it takes to take it to an excellent stage.
„It may be my mission as nicely. I may be a part of it and I can present myself that I am among the best and I wish to try this as a result of I all the time imagine that I am among the best on the grid.
„However clearly, the interval at Pink Bull takes that confidence from you when you’re not delivering and your team-mate is profitable and so forth. And I all the time knew what the problems had been, however it takes confidence away from you. That is why I needed to return again.“
